![]() ![]() ![]() Apps by nature add value to the smartphone or tablet and therefore they could even be offered for free in the beginning. The answer is that the whole app ecosystem was backed and pushed by a visionary industry leader as a 'value-adding' concept with a clear consumer appeal. The case in point is Apple's introduction of apps and the 'App Store' for iPhone and iPads ten years ago, which was also an 'enabling technology', but it did never really go through a stage of 'disillution'. It does not offer the nuances of an 'enabling technology' for the industry like IoT/Smart Home or Blockchain as opposed to for example the adoption of smartphones as a consumer technology. However, the Hype Cycle is merely a framework to understand megatrends and forces at work. It could be argued that this should come as no surprise, because it is exactly what the Gartner 'Hype Cycle' predicts. ![]()
